Inviting your lady:
| |
|
| |
Inviting your lady to your country will require different duties depending on where you live and period of stay.
EU countries have a similar policy and generally allow you to invite your lady for a brief time with a tourist visa.
Periods of stay up to 15 days will require no duties on your behalf and generally a tourist visa will be issued in a few days by your country's embassy or consulate in Russia. So, it is not strictly necessary to move in advance if that’s the case.
For stays longer than 15 days, in most countries you will have to send an invitation, issue a bank guarantee in favour of your lady and notify your lady's stay at local police offices once she has arrived.

Going to Russia:
| |
|
| |
Now, let's focus for a while on how to obtain a Visa to Russia and registration duties once you have gone there.
There are some things you better know in advance if you plan to travel to Russia.
First of all, you have to apply for a tourist visa. In order to apply for a visa, you have to receive an 'invitation' from somebody in Russia, which is a necessary document to obtain a visa to Russia.
The arrangement of these invitations takes up quite a lot of time, as we’ll now see.
Your lady first has to go to her local OVIR office (OVIR – Otdel Viz i Registrazij is the Visa and Registration Office of the Ministry of the Interior). Here she can apply for an invitation for you. This application is then sent to the OVIR regional headquarters, where it takes some time to have everything checked and approved. Once your application is accepted, they send it back to your lady’s local OVIR office and notify her that the invitation is ready. At this point, your lady is able to mail you the invitation. We recommend to use a courier, so you will be sure to receive this important piece of paper. Once you have received the invitation, you can apply for a visa at your local Russian Embassy or Consulate, which may take up some more days.
This whole process may require up to 2 months, so you have to plan in advance (3 months is a fairly reasonable time)!
This is not the only option however.
Suppose you don’t have anybody inviting you to Russia. You have basically two options, travel through an agency (organized tour) or not, booking your hotel by yourself.
If you take an organized tour, it will be up to the agency which organizes your trip to do the paper work for your visa. If you plan to travel individually, with no agencies, you can ask your hotel to provide you with a voucher once your booking is confirmed. This voucher will serve as an invitation and you will be able to include it with your visa application at your local Russian Embassy or Consulate. |

What to do once you are in Russia:
| |
|
| |
This is very important: be informed that your visa have to be registered within 3 business days since your arrival to Russia.
If you don’t do it, it will be very likely (although not absolutely certain) that you will receive a fine when you leave Russia. This is not very pleasant and we want to avoid it.
If you were invited by your lady or a friend, you will have to visit the local OVIR office to register within 3 business days.
If you take an organized tour, it will be the agency that issued your invitation to register your visa. The same if you travel as an individual tourist but you stay at an hotel for the whole time: the hotel will manage the registration.
